There were always close links between the parishes of St John the Baptist and St Kentigern. When new houses were built in Clermiston, Drumbrae and Parkgrove in the late 1950s a new church was needed to accommodate the extra parishioners of St John the Baptist. After a period of celebrating Mass at Fox Covert RC Primary School the new parish of St Kentigern was opened in 1966.
