Liturgical Ministries

Church Music: The Liturgy is supported and enhanced in each of our Churches by a small group of musicians and singers. They lead the congregation in singing all the Mass parts as well as the regular hymns.  On Sundays and major celebrations cantors will sing the responsorial psalms.  Major feast days and celebratory events are significantly enhanced by the contribution of the musicians and singers and their loyalty and commitment to their ministry are very much appreciated. From time to time new music is introduced to the congregation to further enrich these celebrations.

Ministers of Holy Communion:  There is a team of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who assist the Parish Priest distributing the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass. Every Sunday, and at other times as appropriate, they take Holy Communion to the sick and housebound of the parish. If you know of anyone who is unable to attend Mass and who would like to receive Holy Communion at home, please contact the Parish Priest.

Readers:  The role of the Lay Reader is to proclaim the Word of God through Scripture Readings and Bidding Prayers at daily and Sunday Mass.   The Bidding Prayers are prescribed or prepared by parishioners.   New readers are always welcome.

Sacristans:  The Sacristans are responsible for opening up the church for daily and Sunday Mass.  They support the Parish Priest in all the Church liturgies including funerals, baptisms and marriages.  They ensure that the Altar is set up appropriately for Mass or service.  After the service the Sacristans clear the Altar, purify and secure the sacred vessels, maintain good order in the Sacristy and ensure the Churches are safely locked.

Altar Servers:  The Parish always needs altar servers to serve Mass and other special services for the priest. Boys and girls who are interested should have made their First Holy Communion. Parents please encourage your children to participate in this important ministry.

Passkeepers:  Passkeepers are often the first people someone meets when entering the Church. They offer a friendly welcome and are ready to help visitors and parishioners alike with any questions that may arise. Prior to Mass they ensure that all is in order – lights on, heating on, hymn books and newsletters ready for distribution. During Mass they will organise the Offertory collection and Procession, ensure the distribution of Communion is orderly and generally be ready to respond to any emergency that may occur.

Flower Arrangers: Our flower arrangers adorn our churches with beautiful floral arrangements for our services, particularly the major feasts of Easter and Christmas and special Parish events.
